Launchpad Pro is an instrument designed for live performance. Enhanced with RGB LED feedback, and velocity and pressure-sensitive pads, Launchpad Pro brings limitless expression and creativity to your music. We've given our iconic Launchpad a total overhaul. I just don’t really use it for anything.Launchpad Pro is the simplest and best way to create dynamic, expressive performances in Ableton Live, or any music software. I think I have opened the MPC software 3 or 4 times total. Last note, my MPC One also connected to Ableton Live the first time I tried so the MPC and LP were actually quite a powerhouse in that environment. Starting out? That grid aligns with the Ableton layout so it’s helpful even from a visual perspective. All in all, I’ve found the LP to be very flexible with these things and it’s definitely used a lot with my MPC.Įdit: Obviously, the LP Pro MK3 is designed for Ableton so its full functionality lies there. I can also switch to my custom program 5 and now the top half of the LP grid is the 32 steps of a step sequencer, and the bottom half can either be note scales or I can assign samples. The bottom left quadrant is mapped to control the MPC bank A, top left quad bank B, bottom right, bank C, and top right bank D. I currently have my custom program 6 set to 4 quadrants. I primarily use Studio One, but that didn’t make much of a difference to me because when I’m using my controllers, I’m typically controlling my gear. With the LP, I think it pairs very well with MPC. ![]() Obviously, the design determines how you work with whatever you’re using. It doesn’t sound like that will have any relevance to your question, but it’s a good example of the differences in how you like to work. A grid format makes me look at things in a different way and I tend to use the LP for almost all of my pattern based sequences, particularly if using modular. I use both the Keystep 37 and LP Pro MK3 but for different things. But, all in all, I compromised a bit and decided that overall, a midi pad and a keyboard would be ideal for the long run and part of the main reason I looked at the Novation Launchkey is because it comes with a license for Ableton Lite (I have yet to purchase any DAW) and other software.Īny specific recommendations for a different controller? Would you do the Launchpad? I'd love something with a touch screen but since I don't wanna spend $700+ at this time the touch slider seemed like the next best thing. My main thing was Akai seems to be a great brand and ideally I'd like something standalone, but this is my first hardware and i wasn't planning on spending more than 300 bucks. Luckily, I can return it or exchange it or get a refund for 45 days. I got a little antsy and pulled the trigger on the studio. Have you ever tried that? I imagine with other more compatible controllers, there's probably no point in using MPC as a VST. But I can use it to control the MPC software loaded as a VST within Ableton, right? I've wondered how difficult that may make a workflow. So I can't plug it in and just select it as a midi controller in Ableton? That sucks. Also doesn't help that the MPC Studio controller must be the hardest to research since it has the same name as the software. ![]() I guess I must have misunderstood somewhere since most Akais are apparently supposed to work well with Ableton. If I had the money, I'd get the Akai pro force no question. ![]() I think the Studio just seems more simple. ![]() It seemed awesome but for like longhaul, overall beatmaking and creativity, I'm not sure I don't think the Launchpad seems better. So, if they ship that order before letting me swap to the Launchpad, I'll definitely give it a shot. I actually ordered the Studio before I found out it wasn't Ableton compatible, but they take 45 day refunds/exchanges. I've been told it is not great as far as overall DAW, but also that you can reroute everything to Ableton and finish there. Seems kinda hit or miss who likes the MPC software and who doesn't. I liked the MPC Studio but for use with Ableton I feel like the Launchpad MK3 should be great. So I decided to settle on more beginner price ranging for my first hardware. No problem, I didn't think it was because a standalone is what I originally wanted but all of them are outside my price range.
